IDAHO'S LARGEST EMS TRAINING PROGRAM |
|
|
With the merger of The CPR Connection and Tier One EMT,
Guardian College has become Idaho's largest EMS training
program. In 2007, Guardian plans to hold five EMT Basic
courses, three Advanced EMT courses, and three Paramedic
courses. Because of it's emphasis on intensive, full day
training, Guardian can produce more graduates in a shorter
time than traditional college-based EMS training programs.

RELAY FOR LIFE |
|
|
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.
Teams of people from all walks of life have fun while raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment.
No matter who you are, there’s a place for you at Relay. To participate, form a team, or dedicate a luminaria at your local American Cancer Society Relay For Life, please call 1.800.227.2345 or visit relayforlife.org.

**NEW COURSE** WILDERNESS MEDICAL TRAINING
|
|
|
June 2009
Wilderness first aid is the immediate care given to an injured or suddenly ill person. It consists of giving assistance until a more advanced level of medical care, if needed, is obtained or until the chance for recovery without medical care is apparent.
Wilderness first aid has a distinct focus because:
• Injuries and illnesses occur outdoors, often in adverse conditions (heat, cold, altitude, rain, snow) that affect both victims and rescuers.
• Definitive medical care may be delayed for hours or days by a difficult location, bad weather, and lack of transportation or communication.
• Certain injuries and illnesses are more common in remote areas (altitude illness, frostbite, wild animal attacks).
• Medical care beyond urban first aid may be needed (reduction of some dislocations, wound management).
• First aid supplies and equipment are limited.
• Difficult decisions must be made (for example, whether to start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or whether it is necessary to evacuate the victim).
